Frequently Asked Questions

  • q-iconWho can shoot at the Texas Ranger Classic?

The Texas Ranger Classic is an open event for all shooters from the novice to the professional – men, women, and youths. Our highly sought after champion buckles are awarded to team champions and High Over All winners.

  • q-iconWhat equipment do I need?

Because the sport is popular with a wide variety of shotgun enthusiasts, the shotguns used do not fit an exact standard; however, every shotgun used for sporting clays must be capable of shooting two cartridges of 12 gauge or smaller. The most popular shotgun configurations are over-and-under, semiautomatic, and pump-action, using traditional cartridge shot sizes of 9, 8, or 7.5.

You’ll need to bring your own ammunition to the event. Make sure to bring enough to cover 100 birds, and any warm-up games you intend to shoot in.

  • q-iconAre there any tips I should consider?

The course at Westside Sporting Grounds covers many acres. You may want to bring your own ATV, etc. This will help you keep up the pace of the shoot, and haul all of your gear. Or, you may rent a cart in advance by calling 281-371-3352 or filling out the golf cart rental form – 2019 GOLF CART RENTAL AGREEMENT

No alcoholic beverages will be allowed prior to the shooting event. Water and sodas will be provided throughout the shoot. Lunch will be served after the shoot – and adult refreshments will be provided at this time.

  • q-iconWhat are the rules for safety?

Safety is an important part of sporting clays. Proper ear and eye protection are mandatory, and firearms safety procedures, as listed in the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Rule Book, must be followed at all times while on a course.

WHAT IS THE TEXAS RANGER CLASSIC?

The Texas Ranger Classic is an annual fundraising event brought to you by TRAF. The sporting clay tournaments are open to all firearms enthusiasts looking to have a fun, competitive day of sporting clay excitement. The tournaments vary in format, specialty games, and sponsorship opportunities.

About Company "A" Texas Rangers

Company “A” encompasses a thirty-five county area bounded to the east by the State of Louisiana, to the south by the Texas Gulf Coast; to north and west by Companies “F” and “B.” The region includes the Houston metropolitan area - one the fastest growing
areas in the United States. More than six million residents and a diverse spectrum of industries call southeast Texas home. Major Grover Huff and his 25 Rangers proudly continue the Company “A” tradition of keeping Texans safe and secure.

The core duties of the Texas Rangers have changed very little in the almost 200 years of Ranger service to the State of Texas. Modern-day Rangers still conduct criminal and public corruption investigations, apprehend wanted felons,
suppress major disturbances, respond to and investigate acts of terrorism, and render assistance to local law enforcement in suppressing crime and violence. In addition to those responsibilities, new threats posed by organized crime, terrorism, drug cartels, and natural disasters have stretched them far beyond their traditional roles of criminal investigation and law enforcement.

In the fall of 2017, Houston and southeast Texas were pummeled by Hurricane Harvey – one of the costliest natural disasters ever to hit the United States. The disastrous flooding affected millions of people in the region, causing more than 100 deaths
and inflicting $125 billion in property damage. Company “A” Rangers were on the front lines of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts leading rescue and recovery missions in severely affected areas of southeast Texas. Many Company “A” Rangers and their families suffered catastrophic damage from the flooding. In true Ranger fashion, all put their own interests aside and continued to work tirelessly to help others.

Regardless of the circumstances, Company “A” Rangers stand ready to preserve the peace, investigate crimes, arrest criminals, and serve the citizens of the great State of Texas.

THANK YOU TRAF!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Texas Ranger Association Foundation. As one of this year’s recipients, I am grateful for the opportunities this award has provided for me. Receiving this scholarship helps reduce my financial burdens as well as assist me in pursuing my education at Texas A&M University.

Thanks & GIG’EM,
Austin Luna
(Son of Texas Ranger Pete Luna, Co. “A”)

I would like to express my gratitude for your interest in young Texans like myself and the other recipients of this scholarship in our pursuit of higher education. I am so fortunate to have received this scholarship for the past three semesters. It has been such a blessing in that it is helping me achieve my goals by assisting my family in bearing the financial burden that comes along with obtaining a college degree. Your continuous generosity benefits my family immensely, and your support does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank you for the time and effort that you dedicate to this foundation.

May God bless you!
Haley Brazil
(Daughter of Texas Ranger Lt. Travis Brazil, Co. “A”)

I want to thank you for picking me to be one of the recipients for this scholarship. It has helped me and my family out in so many ways. This past year, my family persevered through some personal issues which limited the way my family could financially support me through college. The money that you have given me, paid for a large portion of my tuition last semester. Thank you again for taking the time to pick me as one of your recipients.

Sincerely,
Hannah Jeter
(Daughter of Texas Ranger Steven Jeter, Co. “A”)

I am overjoyed with the fact I am one of the students who receives the TRAF scholarship!

Thank you,
Mariah Mungia
(Step-daughter of Texas Ranger Wesley Doolittle, Co. “A”)
